At the beginning of 2021 we set out to make a small difference and bring some healthy and
easy home cooking to those who need it most. 2020 has been a very difficult year, which
has left many families struggling to put food on the table. That’s why we partnered with
Swindon Food Collective and The Trussell Trust.
Thanks to the support of our lovely customers, we managed to give away a whopping 1200 currykits by matching your orders and donating them! Each kit serves up to 4, which means we have managed to feed up to 4800 people together, which is an incredible achievement. We are overwhelmed with your generosity, so thank you.
Here’s why food bank donations are so important…
More than 14 million people in the UK live below the poverty line
According to The Trussell Trust, the need for food banks increased by 47% at the start of the
pandemic. They are currently donating 2,600 food parcels for children every day. These
staggering statistics highlight just how many people have been impacted by the pandemic
and are now relying on food banks as a result. The Trussell Trust also found that 9 out of 10
households that use their food banks face extreme poverty, unable to afford basic
necessities like utilities and shelter. Swindon Food Collective also highlights that a third of
people who rely on their services are children. These are heart breaking statistics. Food bank donations are so important because food poverty has a wider impact.
The consequences of food poverty
Not having access to buy a variety of healthy, wholesome and nutritious foods leads to a
number of health complications. These include diabetes, certain types of cancer, cardio-
vascular disease, obesity and malnutrition. Not to mention the mental health impacts of
living in poverty! Offering food bank donations does more than just feed people in need.
Organisations like The Trussell Trust and Swindon Food Collective also provide additional
support to help people find a way out of poverty and get back on their feet.
